Good Luck In 2008!
By John Cosgrove
It's hard to believe that this is my final column as your MHEDA President. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as MHEDA's 53rd President. As I reflect over the past year, I'm amazed at the commitment that our members, Board of Directors and staff have to our industry. During the year I met many of you, and it made me realize that our industry is filled with people who truly believe in the entrepreneurial spirit and are pursuing their dreams. Many of you realize that we truly are facing the forces of change and are taking the challenges head on by staying informed through MHEDA membership. MHEDA's programs are helping our members navigate the changing world that we live in. Through our educational offerings and MHEDA-NET, our members are gaining the knowledge to meet and exceed their goals.
I want to express my thanks to the hardworking members of the MHEDA Board of Directors. This is an all-volunteer Board who pay for all hotel and airfare costs for Board meetings with their own dime. During my time on the MHEDA Board, I have met so many members whose only agenda was to keep our industry and the distributor-manufacturer relationship strong. At MHEDA, we are also lucky to have a strong Manufacturers Board of Advisors, whose input has been invaluable to me over the past year. I thank all the members of the MBOA for their service to MHEDA and for helping me to spread the word that the best way for manufacturers to get their products to market is through well-trained MHEDA dealers.
Liz Richards and the MHEDA staff continue to amaze our members and make MHEDA one of the premier trade organizations. The MHEDA staff provides solid educational tracks, networking opportunities and affinity programs for our members. Our staff works with the members of our Board of Directors and executes their directives for the following committees: Education, Networking, Membership and Industry Advocacy. By using MHEDA's strategic planning process, they are maximizing our results. Our team in Vernon Hills deserves a big well done! from all of us who belong to MHEDA for their dedication and commitment toward our success.

On November 8-9, I invite you all to join me for a live program, Strategies for Selling Storage & Handling and Engineered Systems, at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca, Illinois. I will be joined by presenters Scott Hennie of Hy-Tek Material Handling (Columbus, OH), Ken Shaw III of Fred Hill & Son Company (Philadelphia, PA) and MHEDA Past President Gary T. Moore. This program will give you a stronger understanding of how to successfully plan, develop and grow your business in storage & handling and engineered systems. Please call the MHEDA office at 847-680-3500 for details.
As I pass the torch to our incoming President, Jack Phelan of Advanced Handling Systems (Lakeland, FL), I do so with the utmost confidence. I first met Jack several years ago when he joined the MHEDA Board. I know that he and his wife Ilene will carry on a long tradition and be great ambassadors for MHEDA. I wish Jack and the entire MHEDA team good luck throughout 2008.
Once again, I thank all of you for the honor of serving as MHEDA President this year. |
