Get Ready For 2007!
It will be a great honor and privilege for me to serve as MHEDA's 53rd President. During the time that I have been a member of MHEDA, I have met so many industry leaders who have served on both the MHEDA Board and as President. These people have amazed me with the amount of time and dedication they have given to MHEDA. Last year's president, John Maybury, is no exception. MHEDA has flourished under John's leadership. Our membership is up, we are fiscally secure and our programs are strong and vibrant. John and Sandy Maybury have long been outstanding ambassadors for MHEDA and, for that, we all owe them our sincere gratitude.
Over the past five years, while serving on the MHEDA Board of Directors, I have also served on all three major committees: Education, Networking and Membership. During this time, I have been able to watch great programs such as MHEDA-NET and MHEDA University develop and grow. These programs are now shining examples of the strength of this organization. They are so successful that other trade organizations have adopted MHEDA's ideas and added them to their offerings.
The success of MHEDA can be attributed to many things, but most of the credit has to go to Liz Richards and her staff. These dedicated professionals are always ready to help and work hard to provide solutions for our members. If you have any questions about MHEDA, our programs or industry matters, the staff is there to assist you, and their expertise is invaluable.
One of the reasons MHEDA has become such a well-run trade organization is because of our commitment to the strategic planning process. Each year the Board and its Committees identify critical impact factors and then set goals with action steps and timelines in order to ensure our success. This process has enabled MHEDA to continue to provide our members with top quality services and has been a key to our success.
Timely and fresh educational programs have been planned for next year, including a mix of teleconferences and live seminars. One in particular in which I will be personally involved is a case study program on the effective operation of storage & handling and engineered systems businesses.
As I serve as President, I will continue to deliver the message that the best way to get material handling products to market is through well-trained MHEDA distributors. I am also looking forward to developing programs for our young professionals within the industry and helping our Industry Advocacy Committee introduce material handling to many industrial distribution schools and business colleges.
This year, our Convention will be held in San Diego. Our opening party will be on the deck of the USS Midway. The Convention theme will be The Art of Business. I know our President-Elect and Convention Chairman Jack Phelan has a great program planned. I'm looking forward to seeing you all in San Diego.
MHEDA serves all segments of the industry: storage & handling, engineered systems and industrial truck distributors. Our Board of Directors is made up of a cross section from all three segments of our industry. This ensures that all MHEDA distributors have fair and balanced representation on the Board.
We are always looking for feedback and insight from our members. You can contact me at 888-247-5214 or jcosgrove@atlantichandling.com.
